The Boston Celtics are targeting New Orleans Pelicans' Center Anthony Davis.  It is possible the Pelicans will not move their All-Star center.  If that's the case, there are other options for the Celtics to improve at center.

The Celtics could go after DeMarcus Cousins.  He has one year left on his current deal at $18.1 million.  He would be an upgrade from Al Horford.  Cousins is a threat to score down low with 26.2 points per game.  He can rebound and box out better than Horford.  And he averages 12.3 rebounds per game, he improves scoring after fast-start breaks on defense while increasing opportunities for second-chance points on the offensive end.  Plus, he blocks opponents' shots with 1.5 blocks per game.

Cousins is a fit for this Celtics team.  The only downside is his contract.  Boston may not want to move any of their players for Cousins.  He would be a rental and who knows if he would want to come back to Boston after the season.

The player who makes the most sense is Marc Gasol.  He has three years remaining on his current contract with an average salary of $22.64 million per year.  It is possible Memphis would trade him because of his poor play.  Gasol is making only 42.3% of his shots, the lowest in his career.  He can still play offense and defense.  Gasol averages 19.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.  He fits on a Celtics team with expectations of winning an NBA championship.  Gasol could be the missing link on this team.

The Celtics might be looking to upgrade the center position before or during the trade deadline.  It all depends on where they are in the standings.  At this point they will be buyers looking to make a deep run in the NBA playoffs.  Time will tell.
