Kyrie Irving’s Play Is The Key For The Celtics’ Championship Aspirations

The Boston Celtics are playing outstanding basketball with a record of 22-4.  One player who has stepped up his game is Kyrie Irving whom the Celtics acquired during the offseason.  The Celtics couldn’t be happier with his production.

Irving joined the team after spending his first 6 years in Cleveland.  In a Cavaliers uniform, he went to 3 NBA Championships and won 1.  The Celtics wantedhim because he is 25, entering the prime of his career and he helped a team play deep into the playoffs.  Irving wanted a change of scenery as well as the opportunity to lead a team rather than play second fiddle to LeBron James.  The Celtics are hoping he is the missing piece of the puzzle for an NBA title.

Irving is scoring 23.5 points per game.  He can drive the lane for easy buckets, adding points by free throws.  Irving is setting up the plays to run the offense.  With him at point guard, the Celtics offense is flowing.  He is able to find his teammates cutting into the lane for baskets, averaging 5 assists per game.

Irving is not only playing decent basketball on the offensive end but he is also doing it on the defensive end.  He isn’t tall to block shots but he can rebound and steal the ball.  He is averaging 2.6 defensive rebounds per game.  His steals are at 1.5 per game creating fast breaks ending in more points on the scoreboard.

Irving has made a respectable start and he is one of the reasons that the Celtics are the top team in the NBA.  Then again it is only December.  There are 4 months left to go in the season.   Irving must continue to perform.  It is the only way the team will have a chance to win a title.  An injury to Irving might derail the Boston Celtics championship aspirations.
